We live in the Technology Era. Man has already made great strides in technology. The wheel discovered by ancient man has made a great revolution. One of the greatest designs ever made by a wheel is the vehicle design. Automobile technology is still at an advanced level. The technology of modern vehicles is sometimes astonishing. Some vehicles even use artificial intelligence. Some modern vehicles are driven by themselves. I think self-driving is something that belongs to the future. But that is what we look forward to now.

We are talking about self-driving vehicles here. Let us first learn about the history of self-driving vehicles.

History of self-driving cars

The concept of self-driving is not much recent and it has been developing and updating for a long time. It takes us back to 1478. Firstly,   Leonardo Da Vinci created a plan for a self-propelled cart. The technology used not only the springs under high tension but also used coils. It is square-shaped and uses three wheels. Two wheels are used

to front and the other at the rear. It is moving along a predetermined path. That cart was successfully built for the first time in 2004. In 1925 10𝑡ℎ of august, the Houdina Radio Control company invented driverless cars using radio units and antennas. That company was a radio control

company. The company drove the Lemurian Wonder 826 chandler in New York city. That was liked modern RC cars. On the 8th of December 1926, The Akun Motor company introduced the Phantom motor car. These cars started their motor through in its clutch twisted its

streeling and where may have even a via radio control. In 1939, GM’s visions were unveiled at the world’s fair in New York City. This vision was called about 1960 S. Radio waves and electromagnets buried in the highway were used to control the cars. On the highway, the safe distance between cars is maintained by automatic radio control. The speed of the cars was increased with safety. In 1936 with the advancement of laser technology driverless cars also came into use. The car’s light beam or laser beam was sent to be reflected and used to identify surrounding objects on return. That was also known as the electric eye. These electric eyes are also called photodetectors.

In 1945, Kalph Teetor introduced the Teeter Cruise Control. To saved Gasoline and rubber construction, a mechanical throttle was used to maintain a constant speed without the use of pedals. The first car using this invention came out in 1958. RCA and GM were developed in the 1960s. That road was a closed circuit electronic highway with sensors. They built electronic highways. This program had to be stopped due to high costs and technical issues. In 1961 James Adams introduced the Stanford Cart which was the Development of the world’s first self-driving wheels vehicle. The cart was equipped with cameras and could be programmed to detect and autonomously follow a white line on the ground. It was based on a command sent from earth and a signal received by a rover on the moon. Tsukuba Mechanical Engineering was built the first truly autonomous and intelligent vehicle in 1977. It used analog computer technology for signal processing and two cameras. That car could be traveled at a speed of 30 𝐾𝑚ℎ-1 and it tracked white street markers. 1980s Darpa or the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency floated the ALV or Autonomous Land Vehicle. This is called an actual self-driving car. Lidars and computer technology are used here. Basically, we can say Lidar as lasers. The future is here.

In 1987 German engineer Ernst Dickman was found, Vamos. It used cameras and 60 Micro- Processing modules to detect objects on the road front and behind. It was a big step. The car had a dynamic vision.

In this way, self-driving cars have advanced to the present stage in terms of technology and various sectors. Of these, the model S introduced by Tesla was the most famous. That car introduced an autopilot option and they could drive on a highway by themselves. Studying other vehicles on the road and speeding up your car, parking itself, getting in a lane properly, shifting, were some options of model S. However, Self-driving cars have trouble driving in bad weather like Sensor malfunction and technical errors. Somehow, Google was working on that errors to fix them up. 3

How self-driving cars detect objects?

How are they got information about their size, shape, and position? People have eyes so these cars have smart eyes. What is used for these smart eyes? A special kind of laser called Lidar, And a miniature version of the communications technology that keeps the internet humming, called integrated photonics are used for it. The Lidar system release a large number of a super short laser pulse. These cars detect the surroundings of the laser beam by the amount of time it takes to reflect on the surrounding objects with the help of integrated photonics the shapes, lengths, and width of the surrounding objects can be identified. The resolution can be refined to a millimeter by paring the modulator with a super-sensitive, fast-acting light detector In the past, Lidar devices were mounted on the rooftop of the vehicle, but these are already attached to the lights of today’s vehicles.
